Testing & Assessment

Minton Learning Services provides testing and comprehensive educational diagnostic assessments designed to discover the student’s strengths, as well as their learning problems.  The goal is to see a very wide view of the student and to discover the root causes and contributing factors of their learning differences. A truly comprehensive diagnosis makes it possible to determine how to make school and learning in general a successful experience for the student, changing their daily life, both now and into the future.

A growing number of very bright students experience problems with reading, written language and math. Some learning difficulties appear before first grade, while others aren’t apparent until much later.  ADHD and Dyslexia are by far the most common terms now used, but such labels sometimes result from looking at only a few symptoms or test scores and may tell us very little about the best way to truly help the student to make significant progress.  There are multiple factors that may cause a student to have a reading problem, difficulty paying attention or other learning challenges, which only a truly comprehensive assessment will discover.

Parents know when their student is experiencing a problem with academic progress or learning, but their request to the school for an in-depth evaluation may be denied and they don’t know where to turn. In some cases, the student has been tested, but the scores may provide only a vague conclusion, or they do not meet the statistical guidelines required to receive help.

We conduct comprehensive educational diagnostic assessments for students who may experience a wide variety of learning difficulties.  Some students may have already been diagnosed with one or more of the following. Without in-depth recommendations leading to real sustainable change, the student is likely to continue struggling with:

  • Specific learning disabilities in reading, writing, or math, sometimes called Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia
  • ADD/ADHD or other difficulties with concentration, attention, memory and organization
  • Poor executive functioning skills
  • Sensory integration disorder
  • Head injury, including concussion
