Head Injury
Dr. Minton has developed unique programs and approaches for people who have experienced a head injury. Sometimes what is considered a mild or unimportant injury at the time may contribute to learning difficulties years later. Other individuals have definitely known that they had a serious traumatic brain injury. Receiving excellent care by specialized physicians, speech pathologists, neuropsychologists, and physical and occupational therapists is critical. We work with adults whose brain injury may have resulted from various incidents: sporting events; auto, bicycle, or motorcycle accidents; strokes, tumors or brain surgeries; falls; or toxic exposures. Many people we work with have experienced a closed head injury which did not involve any physical blow to the head.
In order to return to work, college, your small business, or managing your home effectively, there is an additional step after medical care and other therapies that is often both beneficial and necessary. We provide educational services that focus on your specific needs in the work that you do or for your return to school. Minton Learning provides both individual and small group programs for adults who experience a variety of difficulties as a result of head injury. Areas of focus depend upon your goals and needs. These include, but aren’t limited to: organizational methods; specialized reading and writing for college, vocational programs or for the workplace; vocabulary re-development; study skills, memory, and learning strategies; developing realistic schedules for work or school; coping with distractions; and management of time, money, and personal energy and stamina.
Not everyone who has experienced a traumatic brain injury is ready to benefit from the educational and consulting services provided by Minton Learning Services. Each brain injury is unique and there is no set time limit for healing or for preparing to return to work or an academic or vocational program. We will consult with you to determine whether the time is right for us to work together.
